Aroma:The aromas of the various Basils are so different that it has been suggested to classify them according to the aroma, instead of botanical relationship. This particular one resembles the basil that is commonly grown in the Western countries and used for Italian cuisine. It is light, fresh, fruity-spicy with a balsamic, anise-like undertone.

History:Basil originates in India, but is widely used all over the world. It is an herbaceous member of the mint family. Sweet Basil is very characteristic for Italian cuisine. The botanical name "Ocimum" may come from the Greek "to smell", and it is sometimes used to imitate the smell of Lily of the Valley in soaps and fragrances.
